Victory in Fireflies

As I was listening to Rachel's beautiful song called Fireflies, it got me thinking about suffering. Jesus says, "In this world there will be trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world!"

I love the fact that God is always there, even if just a flicker of a single firefly, and we can cling ever so desperately to Him... Suffering doesn't seem as hard when you stare at the hope, the fireflies...

What I also love about the song is the fact it shows hope doesn't come exactly in the way we expect. Take the picture for example... the girl in the picture probably was expecting light to come big and large over the mountains, rolling down, and smoothing out over every doubt and trouble... She was probably shocked to see a flickering firefly being sent her way instead. But the shock was quickly replaced with relief, and she clung to that hope, with all she had.

Hope isn't always obvious. The light may not be fully surrounding us, but it's there, even if we have to look hard to see the glimpses.

God spoke to Moses in not the fire or the wind storm, but a gentle whisper, the kind you have to work at to hear.

And finally, we see hope comes when we least expect it. c: The girl in the picture was focusing on these fireflies to the point she forgot all about her doubts. She forgot the lie that the sun would never rise. She looked at the small things she had to be thankful for, to the point she forgot about the struggles in her life.

The sun is rising, though. She can't see it yet, but it is. Take heart. Keep clinging to those fireflies. :)
